Can you summarise from Mark Lesson 1C the 5 reasons Jesus was baptized?
As mentioned in Mark Lesson 1C, we can see 5 reasons why Jesus was baptized:
- to identify with the nation of Israel
- to identify with sinners
- to identify with the message that John is speaking
- to identify with the Mosaic Law (and point to his fulfillment of it)
- to identify with the remnant
All of these instances is Jesus being identified not only as the representative for Israel but also representing humanity in the sense of non-Jewish men and women. This is how He is able to graft his family (the covenant community) with those outside the covenant community.
