Bible Answer

Can I name my child “Jesus”

Is it wrong to name a child Jesus after our Lord?

Regarding naming your child Jesus, it is not wrong to give a child the name "Jesus." In fact, the name of our Lord was Yeshua, not Jesus. The name "Jesus" is an English way of pronouncing the Greek translation of His Jewish name. Today many Jewish children carry the name Yeshua because it is a common Jewish name for boys. Yeshua is simply the name Joshua, which has become Jesus in our English Bibles.

The name of your child is ultimately unimportant to your relationship with God, but training him to know the Lord is very important. This you should do regardless of his name.
