Just Breathe

Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Did you ever stop and notice your breath? I’ve been so busy this week with everything gearing up again that I’ve hardly noticed anything except the next train coming down the track, but on Tuesday I had a breath experience. I noticed that I didn’t have any – not physically speaking of course, but spiritually, emotionally, mentally. I was completely expelled. I had breathed out all I had and I was done. I had a tiny little melt down when I noticed that I did not have the breath necessary to take one more step, to face one more train, to look the rest of the day in the eye from the standing side of my bed. In that moment all I had left was breath to whisper a strangled, “I need your help, Lord”…and then I could breathe again.

I’ve always been so awed by the part in the creation story where God breathed into Adam - and he lived. I mean, how cool is that? God gave Adam His very breath and all the days of Adam’s life were sustained by that one life-giving breath. God breathed out. Adam breathed in. Adam breathed out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Now I know what that feels like.

Can you breathe? Are you strangled for air, left gasping, panting, winded? Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in.

Breathe out.

Breathe in….

The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.
