There is no theological basis for mysticism in the church. Mysticism generally involves belief in spirit powers, altered states of consciousness or other occult beliefs, none of which are biblical. The Christian faith is based in knowledge of God’s revealed word, not in mystical experiences. Therefore, virtually any practice of mysticism in the church is sin.
