Why is the name of God - Yahweh - not in modern day Bible translations? God said He protects His word, and not one word shall be removed…
English translations of the Bible render the Hebrew tetragrammaton (i.e., YHWH) as Lord God, because the underlying Hebrew lacks vowels and therefore is unpronounceable. Because the Jewish people refused to write out the full name of God, the biblical manuscripts do not include His name in a way that can be translated.
Nevertheless, the name of the Lord is not in jeopardy, and the fact that our Bibles use the term “Lord God” to represent the name of God is both appropriate and reasonable. God’s name is not being changed or blasphemed, but rather it is being protected.
